I. Focus and Review (Establish prior knowledge)
-Tell students that are going to be learning about colonial America. -Have KWL Chart on board and establish what they know, and what they want to know.
(1 minute)
II. Statement (Inform student of objectives)
-Set the stage for the unit: the founding fathers and their impact on America. -Inform students that today we will be “setting the stage” or learning about the setting of their final task (play, soliloquy, or ): colonial life.
(3 minutes)
III. Teacher Input (Present tasks, information, and guidance)
-Show students the colonial Williamsburg website and show them a video introducing colonial Williamsburg.
(10 minutes)
IV. Guided Practice (Elicit performance, provide assessment and feedback)
-Have students take a virtual tour of colonial Williamsburg. The virtual tour consists of pictures and videos of daily life as a colonist.
(30 minutes)
V. Independent Practice -- Seatwork and Homework (Retention and transfer)
-Have each student share something they’ve learned and add it to the KWL chart.
(10 minutes)
VI. Closure (Plan for maintenance)
-Today we learned about colonial America. This information is going to help us with our final task! Tomorrow we be introduced to our founding fathers and the next part of your task.
